Oscar Sistrunk III started his teaching career at Morehouse College in 1980 at the age of 24. He was hired as an Instructor within the Economics and Business Department.


1980-1990
Mr. Sistrunk taught both the Principles of Marketing and the Principles of Management courses. With the arrival of desktop computers, Mr. Sistrunk, an avid programmer and builder of PC's was tasked with the assignment of infusing computers into the Department's curriculum. He built the first computer lab for business students and developed the Management Information Systems course (EBA 322). Mr. Sistrunk taught that class on and off, until his retirement in 2015.

In 1985, Mr. Sistrunk developed and taught the Entrepreneurship Course (EBA 452). This grew into the current Morehouse College Entrepreneurship Center. Mr. Sistrunk taught that course until 2006.

In 1988, Mr. Sistrunk won a 2-year, $100,000 annual grant from the Small Business Administration, to teach Georgia small business construction owners how to expand their bonding capacity. 

1990-2000
Back in the classroom, Mr. Sistrunk expanded and continued to modify both the Management Information Systems (MIS) course and the Entrepreneurship Course. Both courses because very popular. The MIS course became part of the core business curriculum with 3 overflowing sections per semester. The Entrepreneurship course moved to the late afternoon with a large enrollment of over 75 students per semester.


In the middle 1990's, Mr. Sistrunk brought high-speed internet access to Morehouse College.  The Business Lab became the first location on campus with access to a T-1 line for students. Using a local grant, Mr. Sistrunk had Wheeler Hall wired with CAT 5 cabling and 100 meg routers to bring high speed access to faculty.

Mr. Sistrunk developed and taught a series of Real Estate Courses in the Department. Both the Principles of Real Estate and Real Estate Finance were created. Mr. Sistrunk taught those classes for a few years until an adjunct professor was brought in.

2000-2010
Mr. Sistrunk, continued to teach both MIS and the Entrepreneurship courses. In 2005, he became the first Director of the Entrepreneurship Center@ Morehouse College and assisted in the hiring of the current Director, Ms. Tiffany Bussey. In 2007, Mr. Sistrunk received a $1.5M, 3-year grant with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation (Leyard, CT), owners of Foxwoods Casino, the first and largest tribal casino in the USA. Mr. Sistrunk spend 2 years in Leyard, teaching entrepreneurship to tribal youth and adults. He assisted in opening tribal businesses within the casino. Working with Ms. Judy Bell and Tribal Council Vice Chairman Richard E. Sebastian, the first Dunkin Donuts was opened in Foxwoods in 2009. It quickly became the highest grossing Dunkin Donuts in the USA, based on a dollar square foot.

 

2010-2015
Mr. Sistrunk returned to Morehouse College and finished his career teaching the MIS course. Retiring in 2015, after 35 years.

 

2015- 2020

Mr. Sistrunk continued appraising commercial appraisal and teaching Entrepreneurship during the summer at Foxwoods Casino. The courses are for both MPTN tribal members and Foxwoods Employees.

 

2020- Currently

Mr. Sistrunk continues to appraise commercial properties and teaching Entrepreneurship during the summer at Foxwoods Casino. The Connecticut courses are for both MPTN tribal members and Foxwoods Employees.
