John E. Williams Bio - DRAFT

 

John Edward Williams, Professor Emeritus, served on the Morehouse College faculty for over three decades (1976-1986, 1989-2013), was holder of the Mills Lane Chair in Finance and Dean of the Division of Business Administration & Economics. He earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Morehouse College; Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Information Systems, Master of Business Administration in Finance-Information Systems and the Ph.D. in Land Economics and Finance from Georgia State University. Dr. Williams has completed Post Doctorate work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), New York University (NYU) and the Weimer School of Advanced Studies in Real Estate and Land Economics, where he is a Homer Hoyt Fellow and a member of the Weimer School of Advanced Land Studies Faculty.

 

Dr. Williams' primary research focus is "Land Economics." He has published manuscripts on a variety of topics including: Mortgage Finance, Portfolio Management, Tenure Choice, International and Domestic Real Estate Portfolio Diversification, and Real Estate Investment Software. He has also published a Real Estate Investment Case Book and a Real Estate Software User's Guide. His works have been published in a host of prestigious volumes such as the Journal of Real Estate Research, for which he also served as editor of the "Inner City Real Estate Markets" special issue.  Dr. Williams has presented papers at numerous conferences for organizations such as the Washington Research Forum, the American Real Estate Society and the Homer Hoyt Institute on such topics as the economic impact of professional sports venues, stadium development and the effects of economic diversification. His current research includes the application of modern portfolio theory to economic base analysis, inner city real estate markets and mortgage market efficiency.

 

Dr. Williams published a Professional Code of Ethics that was reviewed and approved by the American Real Estate Society board of directors. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB, International) for which he served as a member of its Blue Ribbon Committee (BRC) charged to review and rewrite the current Business Standards. He is immediate past president and a member of the Board of Directors of the HBCU Business Deans' Roundtable, member of the European Real Estate Society and co-founder of the African Real Estate Society. Other professional memberships include: the American Finance Association; American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association; Georgia State University Foundation Board; Delta Sigma Pi (Professional Business Society); the Appraisal Institute; Southern Finance Association; Golden Key National Honor Society; Beta Gamma Sigma National Honor Society; Omicron Delta Epsilon (International Economics Honor Society). He is also a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

MY PROFESSION

 

My passion is real estate and education. I have over 30 of years of commercial real estate experience as an appraiser and consultant. I am a current member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI) and a Georgia registered appraiser. Since 1980, I have taught various courses in the business department at Morehouse College. I was a full-time college professor until 2007 and part-time since 2007.
